Natural ageing and subtle changes to the finish may occur over time, particularly in moisture-rich environments, and this is considered part of the product’s wear rather than a manufacturing fault.

Make sure all objects are dry before placing them on surfaces.
Liquids like essential oils, often found in room scents, reed diffusers etc, and even water that sits trapped between the underside of objects and the finish can damage or mark it over time.
